waiting for home

on monday i was finally ready and able to place a piece that i have been working on the entire semester. waiting for home is an outdoor, site-specific piece that began almost a year ago. i've always thought the little shed-like structures that serve as bus shelters for school children whose home are too far from the main drag to be interesting. they are very physical space between home and school, yet often they are unmarked, simple shelters save for the scrawlings of the occupant on the inside. what if these spaces became marked with the feeling of home; the idea of home in an unexpected place?

i constructed my own bus stop that contains things from home. the shelter is on wheels allowing it to be mobile, just like our connotations of home are never fixed, even if we are not close to home. with the help of two fellow grads, my bus stop was placed next to a campus bus stop, inviting people to sit while waiting. the bus shelter will travel to other bus stops on campus over the next week or so.
