maieutics

maieutics: Ma*ieu"tics\, n. The art of giving birth (i. e., clearness and conviction) to ideas, which are conceived as struggling for birth.

our first year MFA exhibition opened this past week, with the reception on thursday night. we had an overwhelming turnout, due to being able to coordinate our opening with the undergraduate honors exhibition's reception right before ours on the same day. being that we are one of the largest classes to come through the program at stony brook we had the option of splitting the gallery time allotted for two shows, 4 in one and 5 in the other. in light of this option we did the only thing we felt was right and said no, all 9 of us will show together; we came in as 9, work together as 9, it is only fitting that we show as 9. given that the gallery is relatively small there was much anticipation as to what this show would look like with so many people taking part. we worked tirelessly to be sure that everyone was fairly represented, with as little sacrifices made as possible. the resulting show is one for all of us to be proud of. even in the small scale of the works, they speak volumes.

more images to come...
