happy summer, the solstice is just one of the many things that have passed since last writing. summer has been quietly ushered into long island after a pleasant, yet pestering allergy season during the spring. here it is almost, july and my summer is nearly half over, just as i have kinda figured out a new working schedule.
i've started my internship at SculptureCenter, a few weeks ago. i am working in the operations area and with the "in practice" open call. i will primarily be assisting in looking at all the project proposals that come through and narrowing the field from nearly 800 applicants to approximately 200.
last weekend i finally got together with cory for the first of hopefully a few more times this summer. i met him and ryan chaney at storm king art center, which is pretty much a sprawling, 500 acre sculpture park and museum, or more accurately, a huge playground for art geeks. forgetting how buggy the place is and that it is prime poison ivy season, we left with remarkably little itchy spots. during the afternoon we were lucky enough to hear stephen talansik, talk about a work he completed for the 50th anniversary exhibition, 5 + 5 new perspectives.
as for things to come, there will be some shifting going on over the next few weeks in the studios. a bittersweet time, saying goodbye to brilliant friends but also having great expectations for what will come their way over the next months.
for now, i leave with a few shots from storm king.
